Welcome

Welcome to the Southern Routes. The Southern routes will be given the designations of 5-6, 50’s and 60’s + 95, and 96. Also, routes with the letter S will associate with some southern community even if that neighborhood does not have a designation. There will be many routes that would be reduced to connect with South Hills Junction. This is designed to reduce the number of primary routes for the southern routes. This will therefore allow ACT to work with the City of Pittsburgh for consolidated routing. This will mean while in Downtown, all of the Southern Primary Routes will serve the exact same stops while in Downtown. This will make it easier for a rider to go from one southern community to another southern community.

Service in Downtown will be simple, and to the point. The southern routes will cross the Smithfield Street Bridge to the Blvd of the Allies where it the route will turn and connect to Wood Street. The south buses will serve Wood Street, and connect to Smithfield street via 6th Avenue. Smithfield Street has an outbound bus lane to make moving much easier. The bus will then cross the Smithfield Street Bridge again before serving its normal route.

Next is the South Busway. My choice here will be controversial I am sure, but does not have a negative impact on routing. The current South Busway will be renamed South Corridor. The current Silver line will be ACT’s South Busway. There will be a need for renovation of the stops and stations to accept buses as well as LRT vehicles. This will be because there will be a 1S: South Busway – Oakland which will need to be a bus since there are no LRT lines serving Oakland. In turn, there will be intention to provide more reliable service for the new South Busway, and the South Corridor.
